Q&A: Deep Energy Retrofit of a Single Family Home in Victoria

Terry Bergen will discuss what is involved in transforming a 1960’s single family house into an energy efficient home. And not just any house, his own family home. He will provide a project overview and outline the various sustainable building materials and technologies used to achieve a high-performance building envelope suited to his geographic location. Following the overview, seminar participants will have the opportunity to ask questions to gain additional insights into specific details of the project.

Terry is the Managing Principal of RJC’s Building Science and Restoration team on Vancouver Island. His experience encompasses the whole spectrum of RJC’s building science and structural restoration practice. In various capacities, he participates in design, detailing, review and administration of new building enclosures, building enclosure restorations, seismic upgrades, new structures, and structural restorations. Terry’s favourite projects have stressed integration of building enclosures and optimized mechanical systems to maximize thermal comfort, energy efficiency and durability.
