The Build Show Network Visits British Columbia’s Okanagan Region

In December 2019, celebrity builder Matt Risinger of The Build Show and The Build Show Network was in our home province of British Columbia for the High-Performance Building Road Show. The week-long road show included various speaking engagements, manufacturing plant tours, and many high-performance project visits in and around Vancouver.

The tour was a hit! The Build Show’s audience loved all the high-performance design and construction details that Matt showcased in his videos. To date, the nine videos from the High-Performance Building Road Show have a total of more than 2,175,000 views!

As a result of the the High-Performance Road Show’s success, the great people at The Build Show Network decided to come back to British Columbia for a new multi-video series about high-performance construction. Last week, The Build Show Network team drove four hours north-east of Vancouver to the Okanagan region to tour two under construction projects for the first Build Original Series: High-Performance in Canada.

Their first stop was in Summerland to tour a high-performance custom home by NIDO Design and Red Stag Contracting. This ranch style home is targeting step 4 of the BC Energy Step Code and features a number of high-performance building materials and technologies, including an ICF foundation with an additional 2-5/8″ EPS on either side and 2″ concrete faced EPS insulation panel on the exterior; 2×12 framed walls with densepack cellulose insulation for an effective insulating value of R34; weather resistant barrier Rothoblaas Traspir 115 with rainscreen; triple glazed Innotech windows and doors; and 116% efficient Minotair CERV. The home will be powered solely by electricity and will have a 6.7 kw/h solar system that will account for up to 75% of the home’s yearly usage.

The second stop was in Lake Country to tour an owner-built custom home designed by DOS Design Group. With a mid-construction blower door test result of 0.25 ACH50, this high-performance home has achieved step 5 of the BC Energy Step Code. The net-zero energy ready home is two-storey with a Nudura ICF first-storey, WestEco structural insulated panels (SIPs) wall and ceiling system, and triple glazed Innotech windows and doors.

Thanks again to The Build Show Network for showcasing energy-efficient, durable and beautiful homes.
