Deep Energy Retrofits: Low Carbon, High Value Solutions
While new construction moves toward higher performance standards, the vast majority of homes and apartments we already live in were designed and constructed with much lower performance standards.
Deep energy retrofits offer a low carbon and high value solution. By upgrading thermal envelopes, modernizing mechanical systems, and electrifying building services, these renovations reduce energy use, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and improve both thermal and acoustic comfort for residents while reducing operating costs for building owners. And compared to demolishing and building new housing, costs are significantly lower, timelines are shorter and embodied carbon is much lower.
This year, Innotech Windows + Doors, along with our specialty division Innotech Services, is scheduled to support several deep energy retrofits in British Columbia, including Ocean View Apartments in North Vancouver and Tantalus Manor in Squamish. Originally built in 1961 and 1965, the two buildings owned by Hiy̓ ám̓ Housing will undergo a significant update to improve energy-efficiency, long-term durability, and occupant comfort, health and safety.
Working closely with the project team, including NDY Contracting, Nick Bray Architecture, Evoke Buildings and Affine Climate Solutions, we look forward to manufacturing and installing the high-performance windows for the two buildings.
