Cross Departmental Training – “How’s it Made?”

One of our values at Innotech is continuous learning. In addition to formal education and training,  industry workshops and seminars, and other learning opportunities, we also actively organize cross-department learning workshops for our teams. Most recently, our sales and estimating team has taken part in a three-part workshop to gain a greater understanding of our products from manufacturing to installation.

The first workshop was led by our production team at our head office. They enthusiastically hosted our very own episode of “How’s It Made?” for some of our sales team. Not only did our sales team participate in an in-depth tour of our manufacturing and testing facility, but they also took over various manufacturing stations.

The next two workshops took place off-site at our Business Development Manager’s home in Langley, BC. Mike is renovating a small carriage house on his property and transforming it into a high-performance guest home. These workshops not only focused on high-performance window installation, but also the building science and materials involved in a deep energy retrofit. In addition to some of our sales team, we also had some of our estimating and operations team members attend the learning workshops.

To improve energy efficiency, the building was entirely exterior insulated with EPS insulation from AirFoam Industries.

The first part of the site training was led by David Yao of SIGA. SIGA supplied the the weather resistant barrier, waterproofing and detail membranes and tapes for the project. David led an hands-on airtightness workshop that discussed the features of resilient and efficient envelope design, including reviewing how a well-planned weather, air, and vapor sealing strategy avoids risk, saves money and improves performance.

A big thanks to David Yao of SIGA for not only supplying the high-performance membranes and tapes, but also teaching our team the “how” and the “why” of using SIGA products.

The intent for the on-site training was to provide our team members with knowledge on the building science behind exterior insulated wall assemblies, material choices for high-performance wall assemblies, barrier layers and their continuity details for fenestration installation, window placement and structural attachments, and finishing options.

In addition to SIGA, several other suppliers joined the workshop to provide product knowledge, including Airfoam Industries, Fentro Technologies, and Performance Haus. Having several product experts during the workshops provided an in-depth learning opportunity for our team members.  As a result, our team not only gained a greater understanding of our windows and doors, but of the “whole building”.
