The University of British Columbia’s Dairy Centre in the small community of Agassiz has a new residence building that provides comfortable housing for students and researchers to live on-site. The new residence is a 2-storey, 6,200 building designed by Vancouver-based LWPAC.

From Azure Magazine:

Though quietly angular and cranked – a faint echo of the Coast Mountains soaring overhead – the building’s standing seam metal cladding juxtaposes the rough Fraser Valley landscape. Repeating vertical ridges and narrow windows across the building’s exterior, accented by bright yellow and green doors, lends the residence a rhythmic, keyboard-like effect. Designed by Oliver Lang of Vancouver’s LWPAC, the highly insulated envelope and geothermal system provide a low-energy building with no on-site carbon emissions.

Allowing researchers to live closer to their work and to each other, the space promotes collaboration through community spaces, four-person residential modules, and an X-shaped courtyard. Rigorous, utilitarian, and representative of the latest in agricultural science – you might even call it farming-chic – the Dairy Centre’s student residence is an ideal micro-campus for scientific learning and knowledge work.

Innotech supplied Tilt + Turn Windows, Terrace Swing Doors, Tilt + Turn Doors and Tilt + Glide Doors for the project with a black exterior and white interior finish. The energy efficient windows and doors were an integral component of the highly insulated building envelope.
