The Ridge

Perched on a rocky ridge above Kootenay Lake in Kaslo, British Columbia, the aptly named The Ridge is a highly energy efficient home. Designed by Ecocentric Design, the home features a number of eco-friendly technologies and sustainable building materials, including:

  • Insulated roof with poly-iso insulation for U-0.129/R44
  • Concrete floors with 4.5″ EPS rigid insulation for U-0.0241/R23.5
  • Triple glazed and double Low-E windows and doors
  • Solar heat gain by designing the home with many windows on the East, South and West
  • Solar hot water heater- Heat recovery ventilation system
  • Light timers to minimize electricity use during daylight hours
  • Steel siding and roof for long life span

The inviting open plan concept was designed around the large kitchen island which doubles as the dining table. There are many large openings throughout the home that provide natural light during the day while offering the homeowners gorgeous views of the lake and the majestic Kootenay Rockies. Original old growth trees were kept on the property to minimize the home’s impact on the environment; looking out the windows, the tall trees also make it look like the home is suspended in the air.
