The Environmental Protection Agency has recently released its proposed changes to the performance criteria of the US Energy Star windows program.

One of the proposed changes is to set the maximum U-Factor of the Northern climate zone to 0.25-0.27. While an estimated 47% of window products currently do not meet this proposed target, most Innotech products* meet these requirements with dual pane glass and all Innotech products exceed these requirements with triple pane glass.

Energy Star Proposed Changes vs. Innotech Products

*To achieve 0.27 with e366, the panes must be 5mm/5mm. This qualifies all InnoNova products except the Tilt + Glide door, which remains at 0.28. This data applies to InnoNova products only.

Innotech has new product listings on the Built Green Canada website based on our new 2010 ENERGY STAR® ratings.

Two years ago, Innotech joined Built Green Canada, an Alberta-based green building program originally created by the Canadian Home Builders Association. Built Green recognizes four levels of achievement: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Builders accumulate points from a checklist of green building options and must also achieve specified EnerGuide ratings for overall energy efficiency.

Built Green has an online catalog of products that meet their criteria for a green home, and Innotech has several new product listings:

+ Innotech Tilt + Turn / Picture Windows

+ Innotech Tilt + Turn and Terrace Swing Glass Doors

+ Innotech Tilt + Glide Sliding Glass Doors

In June 2009, Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN) announced important changes to the Canadian ENERGY STAR program for windows and doors. The changes outlined by the NRCAN take effect on October 1, 2010.

According to the new ENERGY STAR requirements, most double glazed Innotech windows and doors are now certified for Zone A and B, while most triple glazed products are certified for Zone C and D, Canada's coldest climate zones.

UPDATE: This post has been updated on October 1, 2010 to reflect the new 2010 ENERGY STAR requirements.

The ENERGY STAR® label is one easy way to identify energy efficient windows and doors. In Canada, there are four ENERGY STAR climate zones: A, B, C and D. Standard double glazed Innotech windows and doors meet the requirements for Zone B — which qualifies them for Zones A and B. Triple glazed Innotech products are qualified for Zone D: all of Canada, including the far North.

As Canadian ENERGY STAR requirements are more stringent than those in the US, Innotech windows and doors also exceed the requirements of all US ENERGY STAR zones as well.

Why is this important? Because the higher the ENERGY STAR rating (zones C and D), the more energy efficient the windows and doors. For homeowners, this translate to a better insulated home with no drafts which results in greater savings on your energy bills – in both summer and winter. Other benefits to zone C and D rated windows and doors include superior air, water and sound resistance for a more comfortable home.
