Innotech Partners with Wildsight to Promote Energy Efficient Homes

We're extremely proud of the relationship we've formed with Wildsight, a non-profit organization that champions the conservation and preservation of BC's Rocky Mountain ecoregion. Recently we had the opportunity to partner with them on a project whereby two families received free home energy efficiency upgrades. Now, Wildsight would like you to come and visit the houses to see the improvements for yourself.  In early April two demonstration homes were selected, and after an audit revealed where energy efficiency could most be improved, Wildsight worked with the families to choose the most effective upgrades (the homeowners were expected to cover material costs, while all the labour was provided). Over the past two weekends crews of volunteers set upon each home to complete the projects.   Now that the upgrades have been performed, Wildsight is encouraging the public to view the demonstration homes to learn how simple it can be to improve energy efficiency. This coming Earth Day weekend, April 20th and 21st, Wildsight will be giving tours of each home and passing on tips for lowing your carbon footprint (and saving some money!). To inquire about the tours, or to learn more about Wildsight's environmental stewardship activities, contact lars@wildsight.ca or 250-427-2535 (extension 227).

Investment in Canada's Future Pays Off

Innotech is a proud sponsor of Team Canada's entry into the 2011 Solar Decathlon, a semi-annual competition held by the US Department Energy that challenges students from around the world to design, build, and operate solar powered homes. Entrants are judged on energy efficiency, design appeal, and affordability, and while Canada's TRTL concept didn't win the competition, the team placed a very respectable 10th amidst a field of 20.

But, recently the team was recognized with an award closer to home.

Entrants are judged on energy efficiency, design appeal, and affordability, and while Canada's TRTL concept didn't win the competition, the Team placed a very respectable 10th amidst a field of 20.  But recently the Team was recognized with an award closer to home. At the 21st annual Alberta Emerald Foundation Awards, Team Canada received a coveted Emerald in the category of "Education: School or Classroom", awarded to Alberta classrooms, schools or formal educational curricula and programs that have gone beyond normal practices to show leadership and creativity in educating students about environmental matters. “I am extremely proud of the Team for achieving this prestigious recognition of their work in the Solar Decathlon competition,” says Loraine Fowlow, Faculty Lead for the project. “These students are fantastic ambassadors for the University, showcasing their talents in this highly demanding, international competition. Their success with this project highlights the value that the University of Calgary places on experiential learning and applied research.” Innotech would like to pass our congratulations onto the entire TRTL team, and we are extremely proud to see this innovative and exciting learning happening in Canada.  + To learn more about the TRTL project, please visit their website; please click here + Team Canada produced a short video tour of the TRTL home; view the tour  + For more information and photos about Innotech and the TRTL project, click here

The Strand is a commercial and residential waterfront condominium located in Winnipeg, Manitoba on the shores of the Red River. Designed and developed by Friesen Tokar Architects, leaders in sustainable design, The Strand was recognized by Manitoba Hydro for its excellent energy efficiency and awarded a significant rebate. “I wanted The Strand to have tilt and turn style windows,” said Rudy Friesen, architect and developer for The Strand. “But I also wanted windows that would be suitable for Manitoba’s very cold and windy winters. After meeting with the Innotech team, there was no question that their Tilt + Turn product had the energy and durability performance features we required for The Strand.” + Read the project profile for The Strand+ For more information, visit Friesen Tokar Architects + Lanscape + Interior Designers
